Yup, that is a nice lathe, Just my advise, try to always keep your hand on that key. It will not be nice if you forget it in the chuck and start the lathe.

It's not mine... and the owner's a machinist by trade. This is his shop that he ran for a couple years as his business. It was called Twisted Metal Machine Shop

So, I'm trying to figure out how to get this thing sitting level with the Jeep without a lower/raise hitch. The bottom of my receiver on the Jeep is 24" off the ground. The trailer sitting level now is 20" below the frame. I'm going from 29" tires to 38". Going from spring under to spring over. LOL, I've got some sketches to make and measurements to take. Anyway, here's one measurement taken; Anything wrong with this? Should the spring sit level? I could always make the "fixed" end out of 2X4 to lower it. Angle on the hangers ok? ...and here's my "vent" LOL

You can't tell what to do with the leaf until you put weight on it. The angle will definetly change. Don't weld the spring hangers on, just tack them. Especially the one with the shackle.

you sure you really want the trailer that high man? it will want to bounce over sideways.... it just isn't very wide...

So the new springs and hangers have the same vertical distance as the old, therefore;
38" tire - 29" tire= 9" difference / 2= 4.5" New axle tube diam= 3.375"
So the bottom of the lower (new) frame will be 20"+4.5"+3.375"= 27.875" off the ground.
If I mount the "A" frame under this it'll lower the mounting point by 2" giving me 25.875"... about 2" higher then ideal.
Damn close.

did you account for the springs compressing a bit? the 2" will be closer to zero.

Nope, that's as the springs sit now... so yeah it might be bang on with a load.
I'm not sure I want it that high... perhaps I'll keep it spring under. That'll lower it close to 4" and I'd make the "A" out of the side rails of the frame, giving me 2" lower overall.
Thoughts?

if I were you I'd build up near the tongue like this: vs for a few inches of height difference.

Yeah, the tongue will be the last part to go on, so that I can see what direction to go...
... however, there's the question of how to set up the "A" frame, and spring under or over.
Man, what a head scratcher!
