pic from another site... Bill Yep, that would work. BUT, the size and weight are only part of it, also need to know Where to place it on the flywheel, and then index the flywheel. But at least then Jan could use any chev flywheel instead of looking for one for a 454.

That's a pic OF the McLeod product... just noticed there wasn't one on the jegs site you listed.
Not saying he should make one, since for that little amount of money it wouldn't really be worth it. Let alone the trial and error of knowing the weight and where to put it.

Thx guys. I was just joking, but that bolt on thingie is almost too easy. Busy getting the CJ ready for Valley Crawl, I'll have a better look at this info later, neat stuff.
I was looking at Sumitt parts mag at work...the after market flywheel from some of those vendors mentioned are $260-$300 for what i'm after, not really too expensive for an important part. figure a used flywheel for $50-$100, and $50+ to machine it, new one doesn't look too bad.

Rue can balance SBC to BBC specs at the engine shop. Has a balancer for flywheels. Should be a non-issue!

There is 454 TBI setup on kijiji. Intake, computer, TB. I asked if it had harness, buddy said no. lowballed him and he's sitting on it a bit. I don't think it will sell, told him to email me when he's sick of looking at it. How much suck would no harness bring? Could I swap other V8 harnesses I wonder? Would be SWEET to have TBI on the 454.

A quick search says it's very similar if not the same as the 4.3 and small blocks. The easiest way to tell is look at your 4.3 sensors and compare to the 454 sensors. If the connectors are the same I'd go with it. Most TBI setups use the universal 7747 ecm, one post I read said that it could be used. Another post said there are 5 wires, which sounds about right. I think I had 6 or 7, but that includes the fuel pump too. I'd have to dig around to see exactly how many I used. Here's one post that says 2 ends are different between the harnesses. www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=844203The only issue appears to be what to do with the auto trans stuff, I don't know if mine has a check engine light or not because the auto trans is not deleted, I never did get around to installing a check engine light. Sending it off to get it reprogrammed is not a big deal. One thing you will be missing is a knock sensor if you use a 7747 ecm, that can be added or find a 8747 ecm that doesn't require a knock sensor. I like the idea of using a knock sensor, they eventually put them in the block for good reason. Depending on your TBI intake you may not have an inline oil pressure switch either. It's not necessary but would be good to have and is easy to plumb in. None of it is a deal breaker, and in the end with a few hours time you can run a much cleaner harness than just peeling wires out of an original harness. I wish I had done that.

Hmmm, Ok. i was concerned I'd have no ends to plug into the computer/sensors or whatnot. if the comps. all swap, .....I have a couple of harnesses here. not worried about running wire, just having plugs.

Jan, I have a book here that might help if you want to borrow it. It covers all North American fuel injection up to 1995, and has a lot of wiring diagrams. For example, one if them is for "1988-89 C & K series 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L & 7.4L" The minor differences are circled on the diagram. i.e manual trans versus auto, and the 7.4 doesn't have a knock sensor. The later systems, 1994 and 95, are much more complicated and more engine specific. Do you know what year TBI system the guy is selling? And when I had the stroker motor in the truck, I had an edelbrock dual plane carb intake on it with an adapter plate I made to put the TBI on that. It worked great, and had lots of snap down low. I bought an Edelbrock TBI intake for it, and found no difference whatsoever, maybe even less low end torque. If that 454 you have is all together, I would suggest NOT changing intakes, and try adapting the TBI to that to see how it works. The intake though needs to have to two big oval openings under the carb instead of the 4 round holes. As long as you have a wiring harness and sensors, and a Throttle Body, you have a TBI system.

My 454 is a running unit, all together, sans carb. The kijiji injection is 87 vintage. includes intake, throttle body, and computer. ps: Wayne - your info has been VERY helpful with my parts buying binge here and what direction to take with stuff I'm not familiar with. Thx for posting, you've been a great help so far.

If ya don't want to pare down a used harness you can buy a brand new one, if you have done any EFI wiring, it's not a bad price. howellefi.com/gm-tbi-products/wiring-harnesses-only.html
