i love the build dan! has been my dream for my yj, i too have waggy 44s Start hacking and cutting then! the best way to learn what to do is by taking it upon yourself, and seeing what you can do! Everything I'm doing is by the seat of my pants. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I slept at a Holiday Express.

I didn't spent much time working on the YJ today, I was more focused on a cheap truck we picked up over the holidays.
That being said, I pulled the grille and radiator, cut the power steering lines off, grille support, and removed the steering box, swapped the pitman arm so it was backwards (for mockup purposes), and played with Astro-van-style steering, to see how things will look, and fit. No pics from today, but I may be back up tomorrow, or some time during the week, since things at work are a tad slow.

nawww Bill, That's in Danny's job description. I'm prepping the crusher for our job in Yarmouth. guess I have to go to work today, and endure the cold and wind. Don't think I can say the same about tuesday-thursday though. we'll see is I can get anything done then.

well, between doing laundry and assessing the condition of Dad's '95 Orvis Grand (not good), I spent alittle time on the YJ yesterday. I managed to tack up my upper and lower arms on the driver side. First few pics are close to full compression. I have to move the rad to the passenger side close to 2 inches, so that will move the rad hose over, and give me room for another inch+ or compression. straight shot through for the upper arm This should be about the same height at the rear. aaand back on my jack stands I built last weekend. That was all for this weekend. maybe will get the other side next weekend or something.

well, since I had the astro steering box, I decided it was only fit to get a bit more done on Sunday. Before anyone says anything, I only have single-shear tabs so far. I didn't feel like making everything double-shear before testing flex and articulation. I prefer to only have to re-make half of a bracket. I got my trac-bar tacked up. and my passenger side lower brackets cut out and tacked up a closer view of my upper control arm bracket my rendition of a tab for my upper arm. front view with trac-bar in place axle-end bracket I found a place for the Astro box! For you steering geometry nazi's... and some sexy flex.... still lines up! so now I'm ready to cut my shock towers off, build some spring holders for the axle, and cut up the frame some....

Looks like nothing bound up on you during your flexing? Lots of work to convert it over from springs to coils.
Looks great Dan... Aaron

I didn't feel like logging dad out of his computer to put up progress pics, so its Me, Dan. I got some work done on monday, but didn't get any photos until today. Did a bit more today also. I started hacking the frame up some more, in order to fit saome coil and shock towers in there. here you can see the frame notch. Shock placement I don't have any coils yet, since I don't know how big a coil I'll need, so heating duct will work as mockup for now. I think I'll be borrowing a set of 6" XJ coils for test-fitting though.

Looks good Dan. What are you thinking for lower coil mounts? The bottom of the front TJ/XJ coils are not flat. The way I have mine set-up with Ballistic Fab-style brackets that have a flat surface means the coils arc or bow one way. Not a deal breaker by any means but the bump stop rubs on the inside of the coil when flexing.
What trac-bar is that? RC 4"-6"? Any chance you could measure it eye to eye and let me know the length? It's next on my list!

I was gonna figure out my lower coil mount when I had a coil to work with, I didn't even realize they weren't flat on the bottom. I don't do much work with coils, if that weren't evident. John, I'll get you a measurement on the trac-bar before I head back home from Dad's. it's Rough Country for 4-6" part number is 1085, got the one without the drop bracket. It works awesome for my setup, clears over the diff perfect.

Did you consider plating the back side of the frame where you notched it? If it wouldn't interfere with the box mounting you could run a piece of 3/16" from a few inches before to a few inches after the notched area to add back strength/rigidity.
Also, all your single shear brackets will fail and cause bus loads of nuns to die fiery deaths. j/k ;D

I've got 6" TJ coils here Dan, if you want to try them. Once you put the V8 in, they might be just what you need.

Jonathan, all of my tabs are in single-shear right now just for mockup. I didn't want to have to make pairs of everything just to find out they woukldn't work. I've been picking away at them between bouts of A.D.D. I plan to put a iece of plate along the inside, that will come after. There is plenty of room to do it, I don't know how, but everything just seems to fit!
Alan, Dad and I will be down to Jason's this morning later on, I'll give you a call ahead, and stop in then if you're around, I'd love to try them out. Also, I built that coil tower a little taller than a stock TJ, so the 6" coil might just be right for now, and BB spacers may be the way when I do the V8 swap.
