John, I almost forgot, that RC trac-bar is ~32" centre to centre.

Jonathan, all of my tabs are in single-shear right now just for mockup. I know, I was just yanking yer chain. Thanks for the trac-bar measurement!

had another day to work on the YJ today, after working on the Grand. I'll let the photos speak for themselves. The coils are loaners, but will be getting a set of my own down the road, they are RC 6" XJ/MJ coils. I managed to have it sitting on it's own after the work tonight, although don't have the lower coil bucket thingy made up on the passenger side, the coil is just sitting on the axle tube right now. Now, I just have a LOT of finish welding, and double-shear tabs left to finish up, and gussets, and reinforcement washers, and everything else!

oh yeah, and I have to move the radiator over to the passenger side a couple of inches, build ANOTHER grille support, build new fenders, modify my inner fenders, paint everything, and more.

Bah! hell no, I prefer to think that with the added wheelbase, and the rear xj springs, I'm more of a cherokee than a TJ, so I'll stick with the square lights.
Square headlights are the new stingers, didn't you know?

Thanks, it's coming.... I haven't decided if the V8 will happen this winter or not. I'll have 5.13's in if before it hits the road again, so I may just run it this summer like that, and do the motor swap next winter. Hard to tell though.

Looks like it will all work. Pretty long coils for the amount of lift...should droop well. Tall tower and low COG......makes for stability.

That's sort of what I had in mind Jan. These are 6" XJ coils, so the spring rate is a little stiffer. might switch to a set of TJ coils before I'm done with this project.. I'm still astounded that everything fits like I hoped.

well, I haven't made a lot of progress really, just a few hours here and there, but I did get things back together yesterday and started adding and removing. I made a set of lower coil retainers, using the old ones off of the junk d35 I took out of my ZJ I had to make some room for the tracbar on the passenger side. I got stuffed. see, it all fits. just barely....... and an overall shot. so Now, I'm waiting on some Ni99 welding rods, should have them by the middle of this week, then I'll get the axle all welded up, and be done that. Still some bracing and gusseting to do on the frame end brackets for the arms, and for the coil towers. I might end up redoing my coil towers and shock towers yet, I'm not sure if I left myself enough room for the shocks. I have almost everything to rebuild the front end also, so once it is welded, I will have it sent out for regearing and rebuild, then I'll rebuild the knuckles with all new bearings and seals, and put things back in, then test for shocks.

well, I have been picking away when I have the time to do so. Today, I pulled the transmission and t-case. my tranny was starting to frig up badly, so I'm gonna throw another one in before I get going. I pulled the front housing out to finish up some brackets and tabs, and do some finish welding. I also decided, since I had to take the exhaust off anyways, that it was a good time to work on re-routing things, so I played around a little bit with the old factory header I had taken off before, and modified it a bit. The factory header that came on this engine was a rear-dump unit. I decided to make it a forward dumping one, so I can run the exhaust up around the sump of the oil pan. kept the weld locations as free-flowing as possible. all I did was switch the two collector pipes, shorten them a little, and weld the final collector to the end of them. I'm ordering an exhaust manifold gasket tonight, should have it monday, and then I can put it in and try it out. I won't be too upset if the welded up cracks don't hold up for long. I don't mind welding it up every once in a while, some day I'll get a new header for it and redo the exhaust again.

I'm still at it... slowly. so with 31 days to go before Jam, here she sits.... IMG]http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo113/imasoldier13/20130505_201343.jpg[/IMG] did some more bracing and plating to things, such as the trac-bar bracket. axles completed, gutted, and ready for front end to be finish welded Wifey came out and did some structural welding for me sunday. a shot of lower control arm brackets, shock tabs, bottom of coil perch, etc. other one. that's 1/4" steel welded with flux core in a 135 Lincoln, if anyone is wondering. I also did a bit of friggin' around with the grille and radiator, and ended up taking a plymouth voyager electric fan, cutting it up a bit, built a new shroud for it to bolt to. it isn't pretty, but might work. pics next weekend. have the axles loaded up in the truck, as you could see in the photos, I plan to have them to work on wednesday evening and burn some 99NI rods on the front centre-section, and some 7018's for the rest for extra passes on the regular mild steel welds. after welding, they are going to Alan Justason's to get the new 5.13's put in, with front lockright and rear fozzy. updates next weekend.

I never realized that I hadn't updated this thread since May of last year. I DID get the YJ finished last year before Jam, with time to spare so I could drive it a few times and work out any bugs before wheeling the piss out of it. It works awesome. I am totally impressed with how well it works. Fozzied rear spiders, and a lockright front end, and 5.13's. So I busted it up pretty bad before Christmas, being a dumbass. I was turning some hard donuts in the field behind the house, and blew the front driver's side u-joint, separated the ball-joints, and tore my brake lines off, leaving it on 3 tires. For those of you who didn't see that, here is a shot during our first big snwo-fall in December. I started last night with putting in a pair of new ball-joints, this time I went with Moog units, since I don't plan to have this apart again for a while. Today I got to changing the axle, and getting the first RCV in. perdy orange ball.... The freezing rain had started when I was tightening up the upper ball-joint. I didn't really have much trouble with the RCV installation. I watched the video on their website, and followed that to the best of my ability. The hardest part was getting the nut started on the lower ball joint, and once I had that tightened up, I realized I had forgotten the grease boot on the upper joint. Removing and reassembling went fairly quick. I took the upper joint out and used Scotty's advice of staking the opening with a punch, since the upper joint wasn't very tight in its hole. final reassembly went well, replaced the brake flex line once the knuckle was back together. I gravity-bled the caliper, since I was alone this afternoon. Over-all, I'm quite happy with now easy the process of installing the RCV's seems to be, as I have heard horror stories of people taking hours just getting the knuckle installed. I think it took me 15 minutes from starting, to having the knuckle securely attached and ready for spindle and hub.
