Do you want the flares for coverage? Or clearance? I say go with the flat style. Who cares if you're wheel openings are a little big. More room for flex! Both. It's a DD, so I don't want to get nailed by a compliance officer. Clearance-wise, I probably don't have to worry with 33's, but if I went to 35's I know Grant's tires rub on his stock flares when flexed and he's got the same lift. Bushwacker makes the flat panel flares in 4" or 6". They're apparently re-designed too using a different compound similar to Xenon so they not as brittle (as their reputation used to be). If they just covered the 33's, I'd be happy with that. What I don't want is if the 6" flares stick out way past the tire, that may look a little silly - like the Jeep has wings. lol Maybe what I should do is put one of the tires on a rim on the Jeep, then measure out and see if 4" flares will do it, or how far the 6" will stick out. Then order the flares.

yeah Cindy, you should build it the way you want. it's you that drives it. Thanks Darren. I like hearing the feedback and other people's opinions though, it's all part of the information-gathering process to make informed decisions before I spend a lot of money. Cosmetic things (like the camo stuff) is personal preference, and while I still like hearing feedback on that type of thing no one can probably sway me from what I like! But performance and functionality feedback I see as very important and certainly welcome it! ;D Cheers, Cindy

Sounds like a good plan! Put a straight edge on the side of the tire and measure out from the body. That'll tell you how much flare you need. You might be able to get away with 1" less or something... but with compliance doubling its roadside checks, I wouldn't.
This is assuming that the backspacing on the wheel you try is the same as the wheels you'll be running.

I had no issues with 33 swampers (a true 33) on an 8 inch rim but with the 35s and the 130 lb+ winch on the front im going to put a spacer in to bring up the front a little

I looked at the rig you posted Cindy. Looks pretty good. He is running at 15x10 wheel as well though. But all in all it looks good. Very un-grocery cart-like. As you were...

I've been doing more research, and I think the flares on that Jeep are Bushwacker pocket flares. I like em. I've been searching high and low for pics of a TJ that had a 5" lift, 33's and flat panel flares...I found one that as a 4" lift, 33's and the flat flares. It looks good...but mine will be 1" taller. One inch doesn't sound like a lot; I wonder how much difference it will make, and will it lean towards grocery cart then? Me no want grocery cart. lol Here's the link with that Jeep: www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6250285

They look great. However there is one tiny detail that I like better about the Bushwackers over the Xenons: The forward part of the Bushwacker flare comes down in a sharp triangle to meet the fender: Whereas the same part of the Xenon flare is curved outward: It's just personal preference, but I prefer the straight lines of the Bushwacker over the Xenon. Both are great-looking flares though. Cheers, Cindy
