I will have to start going to Truro to start buying my plate steel Got a PH # ? www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Nova-Scotia/Truro/John-Ross-Sons-Ltd/7750003.htmlPlus discounts for regular customers, and It pays to go often, I've seen D300's and 14 bolts....amongst other stuff in the piles of housings and assemblies. I have grey crow bars I got there for $5.00 The one bonus to Truro....... The one on Pictou road is good for smaller stuff. I got a 6" record vise in great shape there a month ago by weight.

Well my nite got off to a horrible start. jan maybe you can offer me some plasma advice. Tonight is the 2nd time ive used my plasma. the first cut i made went great it was clean and crisp. the second cut went to shit and the third cut was not cutting at all. I may have cause these issues by not being educated enough. should the tip of the plasma touch the steel or glide slightly above it? I took some pictures to see if anyone can identify what i need i tried a new tip but there is also another tip inside that i suspect may need replaced too. im hopeing i can find a place in truro thats open tomorrow. seemed like after it stopped cutting it started to try to escape out the side of the torch? im not sure if this hole was suposed to be here. it was my last attempt of the night at fixing it. it had a small indent so i thought maybe there was suped to be a hole and it got to hot and melted it shut so i drilled into it (realizing if i messed it up i would be getting some new ones anyway)

The hole is very small, what you drilled is way too big.
Most plasma tips should have about a 1/16" gap between tip and steel while cutting.
Do you have water separators on your air lines? Plasma need dry air, and just the one on the plasma usually isn't enough.

Is that the inner tip that you drilled the hole in? If so, no, it doesn't have a hole in it, it just gets one as it wears out.
Are you using a straight edge to guide your cuts? Doesn't make a difference in how well it cuts, but makes for nice neat lines. A piece of 3/16" thick flat bar clamped 3/16" away form your cut line works good.

I should probably drain my compressor, it hasn't been done since I bought it haha. That may help a slight bit.

x2, need a really good ground onto the sheet, and make sure there is NO water in your air. might be an idea to go to PA and buy a dessicant dryer, or build one like Jan (I think) did.
