On that note; PFT's charging me $230 for the lengthening with the club's discount. Does that sound like a good price? Kinda shocked me a little. . no, thats crazy

My local guy does it for $40, I supply the material. He trues up the yokes and the pipe in the lathe, and welds. I always give him more than that, we've been acquaintances for a long time. I think this last one was the 6th change, I lost count. No balancing.

Looking good. A local machine shop here in the valley recently charged me $60 to lengthen a driveshaft. No balancing, I provided the material.

"Mounting the coil below the axle? SO instead of the axle bearing the weight your mount will have to handle all the load as well as the increased torsional load? What happens when the suspension travels up and down and the axle wants to rotate? Is there going to be enough clearance for the coilover?" DamnJeep Yeah, mounting below is obviously not as strong, but it seemed to be the only option with those long coilovers and not hacking thru the fenders. I still have to do some calculations on material thickness and the amount of contact we'll need on the axle. Should be no worries on the clearance tho. I have the whole thing modelled in a 3D CAD assembly so I can do virtual flex testing. Gotta love powerful work computers and expensive software. There is no doubt it will have to be a burly set of brackets Lots of muscle car and truck 4 link kits do it this way as well. Thanks for the tech concerns Rico

Jeff's Rock Crawler mounts are under the axle. 1/4" as far as I remember, welded around the lower half of the axle tube, and incorporates the lower link mount.

IT cost me $150 to have the TJ driveshaft shortened , and I had it apart and all ready cut , just had to press , weld and balance

" Thanks for the tech concerns Rico I have seen pictures of what you guys are doing. Was just wondering why if you were starting with a blank slate for suspension. I missed the part about not wanting to chop up the body. Funny. Once you get away from the confines of working around sheetmetal you don't worry about that anymore ;D Oh yeah. Having access to cool programs must be nice! I still use pen and paper or draw on the floor! Mostly just wing it

You can't complare your neighbor's brother's uncle's price to PFT or Drive. I pulled the shaft and brought it to them. Nothing done or included, and asked for it to be ballanced, so I guess it's in the ballpark.

Lower mount on the TJ, I had Currie joints on all 4 axle locations, and Rough Country and Fabtech on the Frame end. Currie Joints handled it just fine but Jason had to replace the Fabtech and Rough Country joints. There is definatly more load not mounting on top of the axle but the Currie Joints will handle it. In this pic the mount places the location anout 2.5" away from the rear of the axle and roughly centre of the tube. This allowed me to fit the entire Coilover in without cutting into the tub.

It's done. Just haven't taken any pics, or had any desire to post about it. I may put it up for sale in the spring.
Stop in next time you're in town.
