Got the axle tube for the 8.8 turned down this afternoon. I see now why Ford turned it down some, they aren't round (to a machinist). Not easy to put something out of round in the lathe in a steady rest. Here it is just started in. Pounded in most of the way without too much trouble, but the last 3/4" took some work. Had to make a rod to pass through from one side to the other with threads on one end to act as a press. Forgot to take a pic. Here it is all in and ready for welding. Clean it up and start building brackets.

Got the fish plates welded inside the frame rails today, and fixed to rust spots on the driver's side rail, around where the uca bolt access holes were.

Got out in the shop for a little while today. Cleaned up the axle tubes on the 8.8 Cleaned all the wiring out of the tub. Haven't got the tube for the front axle yet, but plan to this week.

Haven't had much time to work on it this week, just a couple small things. I did get the inner 44 knuckles ready for new tubes this afternoon though. I should be able to get some more done this weekend.

Worked on the tub on the weekend. Got the back fitted and clamped in place so I can make filler panels. No pics of this yet. This afternoon I made fish plates for the bottom of the frame at all 4 joints. Only half welded on in the pic. Cleaned up the 8.8 a bit by cutting off the projections where the ABS sensor goes in and filled in the holes (just for looks). Plan to make the bottom smoother too.

Laid the frame upside down, filled in more factory holes, cut out the skid mount nutcerts and filled them in. Didn't bother taking pics of that. Got axle bearings and seals for the 8.8 and put them in, so I could put the axle in to double check I had the tube the right length. It was right on, so I welded it up.

The 8.8 has a big edge on the bottom to catch on rocks, so I smoothed it out some with 3/8" plate. Should slide over rocks better now.
