im new to wheeling so I see its only right to see how long it will take till that dana30 ends its life... First time out probably....just like the "40's on a D30" guy. Plus these tires are probably like 150lbs with rim. Heavier than your average MT. Yup and remember that guys D30 was BRAND NEW, OPs is almost 20 years old.

Don't leave home without everything to fix a broken axle and a knuckle knocked out of the balljoints. For real.

FYI to the OP, these guys telling you your D30 isn't big enough aren't doing so to be assholes... they're doing so because they've fixed their gear on the side of the trail or in mudholes, etc. This is experience they're sharing; they're not trying to get you to upgrade to something shiny because it's popular or everyone is doing it....

LMAO! I was actively trying NOT to be an asshole... an actual rarity. But alas... he is gone. But yes... Dewie... you have summed up, at least my intentions, nicely. The rest of these guys though... My 5.9 TJ dana 30 is holding up fine with 36 inch iroks. Theres another guy here running 4.88 dana 30 and locker and 36 inch iroks. All on how you drive it That would be me. Also something to take into account. The 36x13.50/15 (measures 36.8") Bias Irok only weighs 66 lbs (without rim). I also run them on aluminum rims (a tad lighter) and Chromoly axle shafts. Plus I tend not to mash on the gas, unless I really have to.

Heh, being the "noob" to Jeeping around here (or so I feel, most of the time) I try to take all the advice I can. Having seen WAY too many rigs broken, when the warnings were given, taught me. I have no interest in working on my Jeep, period. Doing so in the middle of a hole, because I shredded something folks told me I would shred....well, that's WAY down my "to-do" list.
Some folks can take advice, while others take any advice as a personal attack. Not much can be done about it here, it's professional counseling that will help folks recognize advice for what it is. An attempt to help someone avoid a major pain in the arse, for them AND others on the trails.

Those military tires are heavy as hell though. Rubber is damn near double the thickness on them. A set of 35s are around 115lbs if memory serves.

If you read through this whole board with a sincere Morgan Freeman voice, no one would ever get upset or butt hurt. Unfortunately, it always comes off as "that asshole that thinks he knows everything". Now let's start this over again..
