We may not like them using the name Cherokee on it, but I bet it will have big sales, and that is a good thing for Jeep overall. Yeah, valid point. It must be done. Just call it something else. Where's the Golden Eagle editions or the Chiefs? lol

I say we wait for 'em to go to rental companies, rent one, and take it out to Crazy French to see what it's really made of. ;D That would be a good episode for Jackass, We'll call Johnny Knoxville up and tell him to do and use wee mans credit card to rent the jeep. LOL, and if it still runs after that than maybe it is worthy but it just does'nt look "Jeepy" enough for my liking.

The manufacturer is simply catering to market demand by offering a vehicle that has the comfort, safety and fuel economy today's consumer expects. I don't think there would be much desire in the showroom these days for an original Cherokee, nor would it meet today's vehicle standards. Jeep does not currently have an offering to compete is this segment and therefore is losing customers to companies like Ford and Hyundai. Anything that brings POSITIVE brand awareness to Jeep is a good thing in my books. Then again, I could a bit biased.

I'd like to see them do some work on the Patriot/Compass platform. Add the new 3.2L, with the a real transmission instead of CVT shit, and a real t-case with low. Sub $30k potential wheeler

A bit of griping on here about the brand doesn't mean much. You say anything that brings positive attention to Jeep is a good thing...well, this Cherokee is bringing negative attention. The only reason the foreign suv is using the Cherokee nameplate is to pretend it has some connection to something that was good. To make more sales. I would go as far as to say its unethical. But it is widely accepted practice in the entire car industry. Doesn't mean it isn't distasteful to enthusiasts. This new thing is like calling a spiffy K-car a New Yorker. Remember that? heehee. 'your door, is ajar' I think the public WOULD buy a stripped down 4x4 utility wagon for $15K. But like I mentioned, the 4.0 would have to go, too heavy. Small Euro style diesel would be fantastic. Newer is better? No. Should have bought an 88 Cummins when they were new. They get better milage than any truck on the road today. They don't even have wires in the engine bay. Pure reliability and run to 500,000kms if you change the oil. That was value. We don't have stuff like that anymore. Calling a European suv a Cherokee is just an attempt to fool the public into thinking they are getting the value they got in an XJ. Oh shit.....how much Renault design went into the XJ? lol May not have a leg to stand on here! ;D

it's true... watering down the brand and good will built by past vehicles. I'm a Jeep fan and I'm confused as to what Jeep is offering besides the Wrangler and Grand.
Wouldn't that bust up the market... a modern utility SUV like Creepy described, with the focus on utility, not electronic gizmos. Diesel. Now THAT would show they have some balls to go their own route and re-create the market. People would buy it. Let the aftermarket take care of the add-ons.
Too much plastic on this new thing. Looks like it was a Lexus at some point. It's not original. I hope they sell them for Jeep's sake but I can't respect a vehicle like that.
edit. and I think we should take bets on when the first one of these is found nose deep in a mud puddle stuck overnight in the pipeline. car tires.... uh huh

A buddy had a convertible, with a voice box in the console, it would never shut up cause there was tons of stuff wrong with the car. Maybe it was a LeBaron, not a New Yorker.

Here's a video of it be-bopping around : ! I guess it is what it is, and this is the way all things are moving. Slicked back fronts, spaceship looking panels and uber-electronics all throughout. I would buy this as a daily driver, a smaller size SUV, good mileage, and although it's not a true Jeep XJ, it's not hard on the eyes. The Trailhawk package might be capable, but never as much as a true Jeep. I wonder where the Jeep community will take this in regards to lifts and offroad mods. Wouldn't look too bad with 3-4" under it and beefier tires. To be honest, it's in a better position to fill the role of a DD/light offroader more than the CVT filled Patriots/Compasses out there. Now if they just put the same engine and drivetrain into the Patriot... A bit on the 2014 Patriot. Seems like they are going in the right direction with removing cvt : www.caranddriver.com/news/2014-jeep-patriot-photos-and-info-news

If the Canadian and US governments would just let them put in the Euro diesels they would really have something that the mass markets would go for.
I would imagine you will see small lift kits for them, much like the other IFS Jeeps.

I wonder how feasible it'd be to put in a solid front axle...time will tell

Too many factors to even guess at SFA. Since it is offered in both front and AWD models, I'm guess it would require a full drivetrain swap since it probably has a front wheel drive transaxle.

Never thought of that. Bet someone will figure out a way though. From what I've read it does switch to fwd when it doesn't need the awd/4x4.
Why the is Jeep taking a shit over it's namesake?

It's not. It is selling what the buying public wants. It is also selling what the enthusiast wants.

Yup, they will probably outsell the Wrangler and Grand combined.
