Thats sweet as all get out. Makes me wish toyotas had diff covers Depending on what alloy that hardplate is you may need to do some preheating/slow cooling after welding to keep it from getting brittle. Oh, and pick up some hardfacing rods to do the tips of the 'teeth', then the rocks will defiantly fear you ; Paul I already have the hard facing rods at work and was planning on using them ;D Thanks Jan , You did a great job on it , and I can't wait to finish it

It would be interesting to put a dollar figure on some of the home/shop fabbed parts people make, if you had to pay for every single bit of labour (including yourself) and material, and be honest. I'm gonna guess that diff cover would be pretty close to the $500 range, but I bet in reality was more like 50? Sweet.

That is very cool Scott. Sell a few of them and XJ's will be looking good and ruling all the same. Have any pics or write up of the finished disk setup? I am interested in doing the same to my XJ.

Did you get e-brakes on there scott? I cannot see the butterflys/cables.
I am researching a rear disk setup for my 9" and want to run an e-brake. Trying to use off the shelf parts too. Got some ideas, just need to do more researching for the e-brake (leaning towards 76-78 Cadillac Eldorado rear calipers as they have a mechanism/lever for an e-brake setup without having to use the rotor/drum setup).

I am going to have to get some grand E-brake cables , I was going to try to make the stock XJ ones work but its to much work to bother with It turned out better then I had hoped . The braking is so much better , mind you , My drums were beyond the safety factor and the material was all but gone on the shoes I used all stock grand Cherokee parts for the disc brake swap from a D35 . Jan turned the inside hole on the caliper mounting brackets in his lathe to 3 in from the d35 2 3/4 in.I also used 2 right side dust shields / e-brake backing plates because dodge has discontinued the dust shields and are no longer available . I cut the top off of the dust shields so they would match as can be seen in the pic I swapped in a prop valve from a 95 grand as well .To do this swap it will have cost me $500 - $550 after I buy the E-brake cables , well worth it the first time I had to stop in this wet weather Find a set of caliper mounting brackets from a junker and take it all , I was lucky and found the caliper mounting brackets , calipers for cores ( saved me $60 alone ) and flex lines for $40 , The caliper mounting brackets new from dodge was $160 each

Cover came out great. I can see me making a couple of those for a set for Dana 44's soon.
I think I will put discs on the back of my CJ the same way Jan did on his ZJ. I was thinking of putting a mechanical disc brake on the t-case output for an emergency brake.
Ford Thunderbirds have the e-brake built into the caliper too.
