Cover came out great. I can see me making a couple of those for a set for Dana 44's soon. I would like one for the rear of my LJ.

Wish I had the skills time and place to do this type of stuff. I have the desire but none of the rest. If I did I could have made my own lower control arms Very nice works guys! That HD diff cover is sweet!

It would be interesting to put a dollar figure on some of the home/shop fabbed parts people make, if you had to pay for every single bit of labour (including yourself) and material, and be honest. I'm gonna guess that diff cover would be pretty close to the $500 range, but I bet in reality was more like 50? Sweet. I got the materials for free from work and used the welder from work as well . I took Jan about 1.5 hours to cut it all out and me about 4 hours of grinding , bending , welding , grinding some more and painting Greg ( N/A ) had bought one similar for his Liberty , with out the fins and "XJ" for a very good price In hind sight it is allot easier and faster to have cut up the "T" into 5 pieces and just welded it up , also hard plate is really not needed , I just used what I had . I could have taken an hour off of the labour by doing so and it didn't cost me anything Thanks Jan for your help and the pics , it turned out better then I had thought it would ;D Oh ya when I took off the original it had a big dent in it and inside you could see where the ring gear had been rubbing on it

Excellent job......looks great..... I'd be interested to know what the disc conversion ran you, as well as how difficult it was, like any major problems? or was it just a matter of locating all the parts? You can PM me if you'd like. I'd love to eventually do this to mine(9.25) but i assume it'd be somewhat similar to the amount of work and $$$.

I didn't have any probs except I forgot to tighten one of the lines on the prop valve and I couldn't figure out why I had no peddle I researched it allot before I started and double checked everything to make sure I had all of the parts needed Price will be around $500 when I buy new grand e-brake cables to make it all legal

Any idea what year T-birds? My father's '97 does, and the one he had before that was from the beginning of that same style, and it did too. The 88 Isuzu 4x4 pick-up I owned had them too. Pretty small pads on them though.

That's a damn fine piece of work!!! Looks like you may hold more gearoil than stock as well??
And, how about a list of parts you used for the disc brake swap?

Did you get e-brakes on there scott? I cannot see the butterflys/cables. I am researching a rear disk setup for my 9" and want to run an e-brake. Trying to use off the shelf parts too. Got some ideas, just need to do more researching for the e-brake (leaning towards 76-78 Cadillac Eldorado rear calipers as they have a mechanism/lever for an e-brake setup without having to use the rotor/drum setup). The newer 8.8" Explorer disk brake setup is almost a direct bolt on to a 9" housing. (Depending on bearing style) Search the internet for putting 8.8" brakes on a 9" housing, there are tons of articles on how to do it.

Thanks Alan I will do some searching (also heard the some Subaru Front calipers have provisions for e-brakes as well).
I have been looking into the 8.8 stuff too, but most everything I find suggests a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern as opposed to the 5 on 5.5 that I require. Did any Explorers/8.8's come with 5 on 5.5? I know some f150's had the 5 on 5.5, but i do not know if any came with the 8.8.
I suppose I could use the calipers/pads, make my own mounting bracket then I would just need to find a rotor that will fit properly.

Should be able to use a CJ front rotor. Aye, I have heard that as well. I just need to make sure that the center hole will fit on the axle flange, and that the inside diamter of the rotor will clear the outside of the flange. hmm, I need to come up with a used one to check out.
