Sweet buggy. I'm not very bright when it comes to buggies and modded out suspension so I have to ask a silly question. What's the winch for? To lower the rear suspension? The rear winch is used to suck down the rear suspension when drop down off a vertical or very steep rock ,ledge.Keeps the rear suspension from unloading a pitching you on your lid.. ;D Rue

Nice...does anyone ever do that to the front end? Yep, especially rigs w/ air shocks or coilovers...I need front and rear!...just this past weekend I went to do a hill climb and soon as ya take the weight off the front of the Jeep the coilovers wanna open right up throwing you back even further, I was so verticle I lost my oil pressure...had I sucked the front down it would not have happened. Oh, and the buggy is looking rawkin' Rico Jeff

Had Andre order some 15" travel shocks for the buggy. Picked them up yesterday and had mounted the rears today. I had formed some hoops for something else but didn't have enough material so I sacrificed them for the rear shock hoops for the buggy. I had planned on cutting off the old spring perches at a later date but since this build is taking waaaaaaay longer than I had hoped its time to start cutting corners and just try and finish the darn thing!!! So I made a couple of new plates to fit the shocks and welded them to the top of the old perches ;D "Not quite to spec" as an old club member named Karl used to say but will have to do for now. Unless it works then its good!

bottom shock mount looks like a perfectly functional spot. Being tidy is enjoyable and all, but on the other hand, you could be there for the next 20 years making it ready for the car show. We don't go to car shows. You need to be ready in August. The shock mounts are nice looking. How in the hell did you bend that on the PA bender? wow! How thick is the pipe? Going to brace them up to the top bar? and those little shackles on the axle, for trailer tie down? i think i will copy that.

Who needs testing/seat time for Rue's run in September! ;D ;D And no. The hoops weren't made with the PA bender. Was made using a very nice tube bender. If I could have borrowed it and brought it home this build would have had a much different look. 1 inch sch 40. You are right. The shackles and lugs are for tie downs. I never liked having a strap over the axle on the rear (front is fine). There were just too many sharp edges the could have sliced through the strap. This was just a quick solution.

what make of shocks are those? and how much did they cost you? I'm looking for a longer set for the front of my YJ, and haven't had the best of luck finding anything. do you have compressed and extended measurements for them? sweet work by the way.

They are BDS shocks. Compressed is 20.5" and extended is 35.5". I think they were $65 or $68 each. Can't find the receipt to confirm. A closer look at the hold down lugs for Jan.

How thick are they? We established that 1/4" was too thin in my build thread

The intent i had in mind was trailer tie down, or if wheeling, a spot to strap to keep it on its wheels if it was tippy. Or to chain up the axle to change a tire. not snatching with a 16K winch uphill out of a bog in winter while being attacked by a dragon. It would probably fail.
