www.elearnenglishlanguage.com/difficulties/totootwo.html5 times you used "two" incorrectly! That's some kind of record. Seriously... it's brutal to read without simple punctuation. on topic... cro-mos and 37's, a possible supercharger ( ), on D44s?! dump the supercharger plans and get one ton axles. Put the charger on a car. Bill

Sounds like a lot of big plans, first off if you are going to run 37's I would highly recommend a set of these nsjc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=vendor&action=display&thread=33076&page=1 (unbreakable w/ a lifetime warranty) and I really don't think your 4.0L is under powered, I think it's just under geared...forget going to 4:56's, try closer to 5:13's or at least 4:88... I run 37's w/ 5:13's and I have more than enough power, at 100kmph I'm running about 2300 rpm and I have plenty of power to do 140 if I want to... One more thing, this thread sucks without pictures I do have to agree with Bill, it does make it hard on the head to read without punctuation...and I have noticed in other post where you have used "two"(2) instead of "to"...no offense man, it just makes it hard to read sometimes... Good luck with the build, keep us updated...and post PICTURES, we like pictures ;D Cheers! Jeff

I still say if you're going with 37's... one tons. Yes you need better gearing... but then you're just going to sacrifice pinion strength for the gearing you need on the D44.
If you're building motors, talk of super chargers and fox shocks... why the hell wouldn't you go with one tons. If you were happy with the motor you had, and the suspension you have... turd polish away and goon up the D44's.

ChefTed has been running a D44/8.8 combo on 37's with a 4.0 stroker for years without issues. its an AW4 trans iirc.
Mind the mention of the tiny pinion diameter, deep reduction gears in 1/2ton axles have really small pinions, so you only have like half of a couple of teeth in contact with the ring gear.
post some pics......

Yep... people do it with D30/35's and M20's as well.
Anyway... have no interest in debating 37's on tiny axles. Toss the supercharger on it and give 'er.

well, my point being is that Ted's is reliable with a stroker and he hits the stuff the one ton'z hit, on 37's, and wins. no one mentioned D30/35, or M20's. Bueller is asking about D44's and adding aftermarket axles. If he keeps the gear ratio to the high side so there are pinion teeth, he should be ok. I'd have more concern with ripping out the balljoints..... edit - ah, ok - perhaps where the D30 dig came from - Rubi axles use D30 knuckles and are a joke to knock the knuckle off....BUT...that is the effect of breaking an axle joint and it hammers the balljoints out - if you are running RVC's, i wonder what happens? Hhmmm? Ted is running a 'real' D44 in the front with bigger balljoints - which I have seem come apart on him. I am invalidating my own post.

Esspecialy with chromolly axles In them I agree! lol...telling someone who is running 37's that they should go to one tons is st...pid.... Because if you put tons under it you will need 39's at the least to gain back your clearance that you are going to lose under the axles...I know half a dozen guys who wheel hard on d44's and have never had an issue...don't worry about Bill, he doesn't even have a Jeep... LMAO... I actually agree with you... but it's the 37's that are stupid. If you're going that big... go bigger. And go with one tons!! Bill
