Looks great so far! A ton of work, I know from a past YJ experience. LOL What lift are you going with? Keeping the fenders stock? Can't wait.

I currently have a 4" RC lift that I will likely be keeping. Plan for fenders is to high-line the hood with some sort of tube fender and cut the rear out larger for clearance. Similar to Scottanche on the TJ he just picked up. Jonathan Looks great so far! A ton of work, I know from a past YJ experience. LOL What lift are you going with? Keeping the fenders stock? Last weekend I finished putting the sleeves on the frames. I still plan to add some reinforcing around the body mounts but that can wait for the moment. I got my tires mounted last week too. Mocked the rear axle close to in place just for fun. I'd really like to stretch the rear wheelbase some. Anyone have experience with aftermarket fuel tanks and inspection? The manual just says "similar to stock location". I'd like to get a smaller tank and tuck it up in the rear. As long as it is not inside the tub it should be fine, right? Jonathan

sweet stuff John. for the gas tank, go google it, look for "gas tank relocation". lots of guys have removed the back seats and raised the tank into the back, and built a cover over it to keep it from being in the passenger compartment. I raised mine about 5-6 inches to gain some clearance. if I hit a hard bump I occasionally bottom out the top of the rear end on my skid plate, but I built an aftermarket skid, so it holds up pretty well.
the other thing you could try is the "YJ gas tank stretch" on Pirate and various other sites. cut your factory gas tank skid plate and bend the front up a little, then heat up your gas tank with a hot air gun or torch (when there is no gas in it) and remold it so you have clearance around the front for the axle. It seems like a pretty easy thing to do, and wouldn't take too long. you could easily get away with 3-4" of stretch that way, which would be plenty for a mild stretch.
You Could also buy a new gas tank, like the Alien ones, or other ones that are designed to fit in place and allow a certain amount of stretch, but those are expensive as HELL!!!! I'd personally be more inclined to remold my gas tank if I were doing things the way you are.

I'd like to keep the rear seat so both kids can come out and play. I have a line on an affordable after-market tank that would fit in between the rear cross-member and bumper. I'd have to cut the floor and fit it behind the seats. It would stick a few inches up into the compartment so I would move the floor up and over it to keep fumes out.
I only plan 4 or 5" now but this would allow for more in the future too.
I guess my question is more about MVI vs. gas tanks and what passes without too much hassle.

That will be ok Johathan, the thing is not to have the tank inside the passenger compartment so if you raise the floor then your ok. Darren

how much wider is that rear than stock? About 8" wider overall, measured right to the outside edge of the side-lugs. I'm thinking of some sort of rear tube fender to cover the tires up. Jonathan

I'm looking at an RCI 2161A or similar. Would take a little work to hook up the stock pump and sending unit but nothing too major. They have a plastic unit due out in a month or two that will be cheaper. performanceparts.com/search.php?searchType=part+number&VCode=RCI&searchPart=2161&submit2=SubmitGot some work done over the last few weeks. 9" housing is cleaned up and sitting under the Jeep. Truss is half made. 9" brackets are half made. Working to finish the truss and frame brackets tonight. I'll try and get a couple pics although it doesn't look like much right now. Cardboard fuel tank is mocked up in place... Jonathan
