yeah, i've never really looked over the powercoat process before, want to get a feel for how thick it is and what it hides. how it flows into holes, or sits on a square edge and the like.
I'll be checking it out next time I see you.

I think it's like paint really... The quality of the finished product is largely dependant on the prep work. Because of the high quality of Scott's grinding and rewelding (bumper owner's grinding is poor), the end product is lovely. For example, the fairlead mount is welded flush to the bumper face and it was like a mirror when Scott was finished, and that's after he rewelded and squared away the concave surface the other grinder made.

powder coating will give the same style finish as paint will...if you have pin holes and such, yes, you will see them (unless i use a hammer tone or textured finish lol) how ever, for flowing into place's, it's great, as the powder "flows" or turns from a dry powder to a hard shell finish. it flows out creating a seamless protective finish on the product. so as long as i do my job right, and he doesn't hit it off to many rocks...it'll look like that for years to come. but for the most part, just the textured surface from sandblasting it will cover that, grinder marks...not so much lol.... but i do have a powder primer that i can smooth out flaws...and as for thickness...usually around 2-3 mils thick.

I finally got my spare installed on the floor in the back. I used the OEM tailgate mount to secure it. Three 5/8" bolts, going to nuts welded to the tub underneath, hold down the mount for easy removal if I want to put in the seat (it's rare I use the seat but wanted the option). Then I just bolt the rim to the mount like normal and Bob is indeed my uncle. The LJ has room for the 35x12.50 spare and then also room for the tool bags between the tire and the tailgate. Everything fits well enough for ease of access and also still allows me to use the tonneau cover in the summer for a nice clean look with the top and doors off. Pix to follow. Next on the list this week is the Viair 10007 OBA install. ;D
