The amount of exhaust tubing doesn't have much to do with high EGT's. High EGT's is usually caused by too much fuel in relation to the available airflow of the head and turbo combo.

Looks good, boost but no piro gauge? Yeah. I know, but those egt gauges are pricey. I'm not sure it is as important to have a egt gauge on a rock crawler as it would be on a street car or a drag car. On a rock buggy, I'm on on the boost for a few seconds, instead of 10 to 15 seconds, or more. I'll get one some time.

I say you will be on the boost for more than a few seconds. I'm guessing it might get some 30+ seconds of coal burning awesomeness.

We'll had the buggy out for a couple runs now. Not 100% sure what I think of the diesel. It's a good workin little engine fore crawlin around in the rock, I just let it idle around and over stuff. It has all kinds of low end with the diesel and the gearing. And it's cheap to run too, think I've burn $5.00 of diesel in those two runs. At this rate I'll beable to fill it back up next spring. LOL Here's a vid of it crawlin the wall on HV. Had the first case on the high side and the second case in low(4.7). It seams to work the best to let it idle and find it's line. Picked up a EGTgauge, so once I get that hooked up I can start playin with the fuel and the boost. See if I can get some power out of this little rattle can of a motor.

I don't know how you can go from 400 hp smallblock to a rinky dink rattlecan...I think you have gone from ditch to ditch. That 4.3 you had in one of them buggies was a fine working engine, seemed like the perfect in-between. (By the way...thank you for the 400 hp smallblock). Lol.

I find that video amusing, typically I'd see someone revving an engine trying to get up over and losing traction - in this case the engine just sits there plugging away and traction is 100% issue as all 4 wheels appear to be spinning and the engine doesn't miss a beat.
I REALLY REALLY need to get down and see this thing... ugh

Buggy looks and works good, so your final gear ratio is 4.7 ?, what pressure were you running in the tires? Oh and what's next Just joking man awesome build.

3.94x2.28x4.7x4.11=173.5 is the final drive ratio. It's almost too slow. LOL
In the vid I was running 7 psi in the tires. Last weekend I was down around 5psi, made a big difference. I'm not sure how low I can go since in not running beadlocks. The 17" wheel with the krawlers seem to be a combo.

Well, had the buggy a few times now. Pretty happy with the way it works, but I'm not lovin the diesel. Great little engine for crawlin around, but that's about it. Very hard to get any wheel speed out of it. So, I'm thinking about pullin the VW ltr on and find something different. Like to find a gas 4 banger, don't think I'll go as far as a 4.3, they like to pop the ring and pinions out of these toy axles.
Lookin for suggestions on what would be a good engine to replace the diesel. I was thinkin Ecotec, or a 2.0 out of a neon. I want something cheap and easy to find pieces for.
The little VW will be goin up for sale ltr on with the adapter for the Toyota tranny, flywheel and motor mounts. If anyone is interested, send me a PM

Why not stick with another VW engine? There are a pile of them that share the same bellhousing

What about the vw 1.8t gas five valves per cylinder–a total of 20 valves, and all versions use a turbocharger. They make good power
