Most body lifts add onto your existing body mounts, so you should look for one that replaces them. Daystar makes a nice 1 1/4" body lift. It replaces the mounts, and all you need to reuse are the sleeves. I put it on my YJ years and years ago with no issues. TJ version should be very similar.

Update time. Windows were late arriving, so the siding couldn't be finished until just recently. Here she is complete, as far as the builder is concerned. Wiring, insulation, and drywall all to be completed my me. Another angle. Lots of gravel being trucked in to begin making my driveway nicer. And here it stands today. Lots of stuff happening inside the house, so I won't get to wiring the garage just yet, but I'll be sure to update as I go along. Rob D

Lets make the whole thing aerodynamic like a car! Yea, and ditch that solid axle design that worked so well for 70 years. Lets remove everything that makes a jeep, a jeep and see what we have left.
Sweet, we now have a fuel efficient jeep! Oh wait, its just another car now...

It isn't the fact that the jeep needs repair. People repair/rebuild stuff like this all the time. It is the fact that this jeep is so far gone, was still on the road, and has an up to date safety inspection sticker. It's a very questionable sticker, on a rig that has a frame bad enough it is starting to fold in half. I'm assuming you're the owner?

Manually energizing the solenoid should crank the starter as well. The solenoid throws outward the drive gear, and simultaneously allows battery voltage to drive the starter.

If the starter is spinning, but not engaging, then it has to be the solenoid, or the voltage feed/wiring going to it. If you use a small jumper lead, you can force 12v onto the solenoid contact, to see if it snaps into place. If it does, you need to work back from there.

Well, I am under the assumption (possibly wrongly) that a large oil furnace would turn on, heat the place up fast, and then be off for most of the time. short cycling. Also this is the only hanging unit I've come across yet.

EDIT: I am also trying to find a good rule of thumb for heating a garage. If I figure out the internal volume of my garage, I come up with 9750 cubic feet. Im not doing great at googling BTU's required and whatnot. Can anyone help me out?

It is actually a great looking YJ. The tires are so large for it, its just silly though. Sell the tires for 2k, drop the price of it a bit, and it MAY be a very nice YJ. I'm wondering what kind of abomination is attached to the springs to give that much lift. Either massive shackles, or massive lift blocks. Either way, scary.

10Gals or so a week would be the norm.
Yea, I need to talk to insurance first, and also price a tank and decide if its worth it. It appears you cannot use a second hand tank, at all, no matter how new it is, so the price of a new tank is something to consider.
What a pain in the ass, I just want a warm garage to work on my jeep.

I have a line on a ceiling suspended oil fired unit, only 2 years old. It cranks 145,000btu's so that should be plenty for my space, and heat the garage rapidly. I was also talking to an installer about the setup and he was fairly partial to these units, and refuses to install the floor mounted units. My main reason I am leaning towards this option, is that I have access to Jet A1 fuel drains at work. (don't worry, its all legit, I'm not stealing fuel. Tanker trucks, and aircraft have regular drains performed to test for fuel quality, and water.) Jet fuel is a great substitute for home heating oil.
I think I am pretty much settled on either this idea, or possibly 2 large electric units (Like Jan's). Without being able to figure out any real numbers on usage cost, the offset of fuel I will be able to bring home once in awhile has me leaning toward the furnace.

So... what was the fix? You can't just get to page 4 and say its done. What was the culprit?

You won't be able to operate he locker on the bench, so I don't think it will benefit you. Did you try getting a PN off of the locker and googling or looking it up? You need to make sure the application is correct.

They are bootin'er right along. Shingles going on tomorrow, with walls completed and siding started shortly after. Windows won't be in until mid next week, but the remainder of the garage will be completed at that point. Voluminous! 8' high x 9' wide doors should be all I'll need. I'm back to work for a couple days, so I'll post an update this weekend. Rob D

Thank you for the ideas guys. Winter is right around the corner, and I need some sort of solution, at least temporarily to keep things warm out there.
Yea Jan, the minimum setting was a deal breaker for me as well, which is why I pretty much discounted the heat pump option. No need to keep temps above 5 degC when I am working a 5day stretch. But you can just get another thermostat to allow them to function at a lower minimum?
I need to talk to some people, and get some price ranges before I make any firm decision. Keep the ideas coming.
